A Handfasting Ceremony represents, unity, togetherness and being bound to the one that you love. It is an ancient Celtic Custom and is a lovely way to to say 'I do' or to renew your vows in a way that is unique which truly symbolises 'tying the knot', binding you together in your love and in your life.
Its a lovely way to include something a bit more traditional in your day if you have got a Celtic heritage you wish to celebrate, but is also just a very personal way to show your love and commitment to one another. It can be included as part of your wedding celebration or renewal of vows, you may also wish to have a handfasting as part of a commitment ceremony or to mark betrothal or engagement before a wedding ceremony, symbolising giving your hand to another and making a promise of commitment before the wedding day.
A handfasting can take place of the vows and ring ceremony but these can be included alongside the handfasting. If you have already exchanged rings or are renewing your vows you may decide you wish to have the handfasting in place of the ring ceremony, but that you want to have your blessed during the ceremony. If you wish you can celebrate your handfasting to the full and include, 'jumping the broom' in your ceremony to signify the start of your life together, sweeping away 'former single lives' or to symbolise creating a home and family together.
This can also be a good way to mark a fresh start or a new point in your lives if you have overcome something difficult or supported one another through a tough time and want to look towards everything that is to come.
We would discuss all of this in detail and you can choose what you want to include in your ceremony, while there are also a number of different ways that a Handfasting ceremony can be performed and we would find the perfect way that fits you as a couple. Every Handfasting is unique which means it would be your special moment and the ceremony itself is written for you so that it truly reflects your love and your life.
